England reach Euro 2020 quarter-finals with victory over Germany

Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane strike in second half to send Three Lions through

England reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Germany at Wembley Stadium. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring in the 75th minute, before Harry Kane sealed the win with a penalty in the 86th minute.

The win was England's first over Germany in a competitive match since 1966, and it sets up a quarter-final clash with Ukraine in Rome on Saturday.

Germany started the match brightly and had the better of the chances in the first half, but England grew into the game as the half wore on. Sterling had a great chance to open the scoring in the 35th minute, but he fired wide from close range.

England continued to press in the second half and were rewarded when Sterling finally broke the deadlock in the 75th minute. The Manchester City forward was played in behind the German defence by Harry Kane and he finished calmly past Manuel Neuer.

Germany pushed for an equaliser but England defended resolutely. Kane made sure of the win in the 86th minute when he converted a penalty after Sterling was fouled by Mats Hummels.

The win was a major boost for England, who are now one of the favourites to win Euro 2020. Gareth Southgate's side have shown great resilience and character throughout the tournament and they will be confident of beating Ukraine in the quarter-finals.
